The Marketing Millennial: College Student Living
Alexis Noelle
One of the most frequently asked questions I get (other than why did I want to stay in my college town after graduation) is so what do you do for work now?
Well, let me tell you.
When first starting school I had zero idea what I wanted to do in life. Just like any other young girl I switched between multiple different career ideas, architecture, fashion, childhood education, and even interior design. Never would I had thought I'd be doing what I do now.
I ended up graduating with a degree in public relations. I've always been a real people person, so why not pursue a career that'll have me deal with just that.
Marketing and PR go hand in hand in many ways. So that is exactly why my first real job was a Marketing Assistant role.
My specialty quickly became social media. I had the perfect amount of creativity and understanding of SEO and everything else that is entailed with the professional aspect of social media.
I've also always had a desire to work with real estate and property management. Being that my first marketing job happened to be in the home construction category, I was able to dip my toes into property management quickly.
Enough with the boring stuff...so this is what I do.
I work at a luxury student housing cottage and apartment complex. Pretty much, I work daily with college students and a lot of the times...their parents. This blog's purpose is a little bit for students out there who are researching the benefits of working in either marketing, PR, or property management. And I promise you, it is a great choice.
Other than taking some phone calls from some not-so-happy about absolutely nothing important parents, the job has so many perks. I am constantly creating new relationships with the residents who arent too far from my age. And since I am the Marketing Cordinator I spend a lot of time thinking of fun events, taking MANY pictures, setting up pool parties, contests, and fun and exciting social media posts.
For example this one:
Other than being now one of my best girl friends, Lauren is one of my Leasing Agents. We were giving away this float at one of our pool parties so we had her get in her bathing suit and take a fun and modern picture for our Instagram page. I get paid for this y'all!
Of course there is the property manager side of it that deals with leasing and promoting your apartment complex. In a college town, property management is HUGE and competition is strong. Only adding more excitement to the job.
So anyways, I wanted to share just a small dosage of what I do daily so you can understand my life just a speck more! At only 23 years old, I'd say I have it pretty good.
Until next time,
xoxo
