Valentine's Day. Either you hate it or you love it, there really is no between.

Growing up I loved celebrating Valentine's Day, single or with a significant other. My dad was my main valentine. In Elementary school my dad would always ship a box full of goodies and teddy bears to open in my homeroom while fellow students whined with jealousy. Yes, I was very spoiled considering I was raised by a single dad that revolved his world around me.

But recently in my adult years Valentine's Day has been very different for me. I was single basically all my high school and half of my college years. I would receive some flowers from boys who had crushes on me here and there, but nothing as special as dinner and a movie with the love of my life.

I think that is the probably the problem with today's society. Stuck on what a holiday should look like instead of making it a memory of your own.

Be a cheap date.
Buy yourself some flowers.
Indulge in bags of candy while you watch The Notebook cuddled up in bed with your dog.

It's ok to be single..or even alone.

You're probably thinking, but wait...aren't you in a relationship? Yes, going on almost 4 years to be exact. My boyfriend and I enjoy celebrating holidays, but we make it special by spending time with each other. We try to not worry about who can get each other the most lavish gifts or who can say 'I love you' more. Enjoy the day. Enjoy your moment of celebration. Laugh. Smile. Eat.

Life is a celebration. No need to waste a day worrying about who you may spend it with or if that sexy guy next door will finally drop you his number.

Happy Valentine's Day y'all!

xoxo
