Hey Y’all! Welcome back to the blog. Xo

*this is a sponsored post*

Being a somewhat recent college graduate, I have made multiple...I mean MULTIPLE, moves from apartment to apartment over the years.  If I could pick one thing that I absolutely dread over almost anything else, it’s moving! When I was 19 years old and stuffing my entire dorm room into my car, I would have loved for someone to push me in the right direction to make my life easier. Well, here I am ladies and gents, giving you my best tips for moving!

Let me just tell you a quick story to really show you how much I despise moving. When I was 23 I was offered an amazing job that provided me with my own housing. It was a beautiful 1 bedroom apartment, I could NOT wait to decorate the apartment all cute and just reorganize my life. Well, while I was moving in the last car load (yes, I stuffed everything in my car once again) I was walking backwards with a mattress barefoot (Tip #1, ALWAYS wear shoes) and fell and completely broke my foot to where I needed plates and screws. Recovery took 4 months and let’s just say my “cute” apartment was a WRECK. There were SO many things I could have done differently with this move that would have quite literally saved me.

So, here are my tips for you…

  1. Declutter and reorganize PRIOR to your move.

The less you have to pack, the better. You will be so much less stressed after the move if you know exactly what you packed and where it is supposed to go. I suggest clear plastic totes rather than cardboard boxes. I can't tell you how many times I broke things and tore right through the bottom of a cardboard box. Use plastic totes where you can get a good idea of what is inside, if that is just not an option, organize your boxes by room or seasons. ALWAYS, I mean always, label your boxes by room. This is not only so much easier for you in the long run, but if you hire a mover, I promise they will be so grateful. And if you hire the right movers, they can even do this for you!

  1. Hire Movers!

Hiring a reliable mover is so worth it, especially if you are moving long distance or even overseas. Some moving companies will even pack your things for you! I wish that 19 year old me knew of these resources in college. I probably used so much gas, energy, and time just packing several trips back and forth in my tiny little Toyota. If you are moving out of state (or even overseas!) I 1000% recommend hiring movers. I couldnt even imagine the stress of packing my life up and hauling it to an unfamiliar area.

You can find more information on hiring movers like a reputable company such as Moving Solutions! They offer close distance moving, college moving as well as long-dostance moving in the Nashville area.

       3. Be Comfortable!

Like I said in the beginning of this post, wear shoes! HA! No but really, moving is not only stressful, but somewhat dangerous! If you plan to move furniture and heavy things around, then you should most definitely be prepared. Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in, leggings and a tank top or t-shirt are the best go-to. I would personally leave the sweating and hard labor to the movers, but we can't always have it that easy, haha! Also, don't rush. That is another thing that got me into trouble when I broke my foot. You can injure yourself or break something if you are in a huge hurry. It is all about comfort these days folks!

  1. Take a Chill Pill.

By that, I just mean relax. Moving to a new apartment or home is supposed to be exciting. Don't let the stress of being unprepared ruin that. So many people aren't aware of all the resources available now to make your move so much smoother, and who knows...it can even be fun! Just keep thinking about that awesome housewarming party you are going to throw with all your friends and family.

So follow these tips, pour a glass of wine, and celebrate the next chapter!

And that's it! I hope these tips help you like they will with my next move. Let me know some of your moving horror stories, and how these tips could have saved you from the headache that we all know as moving.
