Moving is not fun. Plain and simple. It requires a lot of planning, boxes, tape, forces you to get rid of things, and the heavy lifting! Yuck. Living in Georgia, especially in the summer, it’s a lot to move in the heat and everyone tends to feel dehydrated and fatigued quickly. If you do have to move during the hottest time of the year, there are a few tips to help you prepare for your move. 


1. Purge: One of the biggest tips I can offer when it comes to moving is to purge as much as you can. If you haven’t moved in a few years, you realize how things have started to pile up. I tend to always find double of a few things I didn’t even know I had laying around. Believe me when I say there are a few things you’ll want to get rid of right away such as your high school prom dress or anything that you were hoping to have fit by the time of year. Honestly, donate it to a GoodWill or neighbor to save yourself the hassle and it’ll help to pay it forward to someone else. 


2. Create Piles: If you have an idea of when you are moving, try to create a plan to have a smooth and successful move. This means taking time to get everything in order. One of the first things you can start to do is create 3 piles of items. In the first pile, these will be items that you’ll want to keep and pack away to be moved with you. Items such as valuables or sentimental ones go into this pile. The second pile is items that you want to donate. They can be things that you might even have used one time or too many things that don’t hold much value to you anymore. The last pile is items that can sell on various social media platforms such as Facebook Market, eBay, or Poshmark.


3. Go Room By Room- It’s normal to feel overwhelmed when preparing for a large move. I like to take a few boxes and label the box by the room. I’ll start by going from one room to the house to the other and put anything that I see in one of those three boxes. A helpful tip is to pack heavy items in small boxes and lighter things in larger boxes. Also, create a “necessities “ bag that you’ll need to take with you if you are staying somewhere overnight before moving out of your home. This can include a toothbrush, toothpaste, charges, towels, hand soap, shampoo, and any feminine products. You can also have a room with sheets, paper towels, screwdrivers, an emergency first aid kit, a coffee and coffee pot, toilet paper, and a suitcase of clothes.

4. Hire Professionals: If packing and organizing are not one of your strong suits, it would beneficial for you to hire a professional to do the hard work for you. 5. Stock Up On Snacks And Water: If you are moving, you’ll want to make sure everyone is hydrated and has enough energy to help with the move. Grab a few cases of water for the big day as well as cater in food so you aren’t having to cook anything for you and your friends. This also is helpful for professionals should you hire a crew to help you as well. I’m sure everyone will feel extremely welcome and grateful to you. Do your best to stay out of the home while everyone helps to pack and move the items out of your home. If you have small kids, hire a friend, neighbor, or babysitter to keep them occupied. 

Moving can be stressful for everyone involved. Do your best to prepare, plan and if need be, hire the professionals to help you with this timely work. Write down your move date and set aside time during the morning, night or weekends to pack up your items, sell or donate and purge up what you don’t want to take with you.
